Introduction

BOOK NOW!
These extraordinary voyages take place during the height of the Austral summer, focusing on Antarctica and the wildlife sanctuaries of the sub-Antarctic islands. In the historic Falkland Islands explore some of the privately owned outer islands that are home to great concentrations of wildlife.

Perhaps explore New Island on the western side of the Falklands archipelago, which is home to impressive Black-browed Albatrosses, who share a colony with Rockhopper penguins, whereas Carcass Island is inhabited by Magellanic and Gentoo penguins as well as water fowl and Night herons. Port Stanley itself affords fantastic photographic opportunities thanks to the skeletons of stranded clippers from a century ago.

South Georgia is a natural wonderland, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful places on earth and also appropriately the resting place of Shackleton. Visit Grytviken, once such an important hub of the whaling industry and where king penguins now wander amongst the remains of the village. Salisbury plain is carpeted by king penguins and is an absolutely incredible sight. Visit Fortuna Bay and the Bay of Isles, as well as the breeding grounds of the Wandering Albatros on Albatross Island. Other areas of note are Elsehul, Right Whale Bay, Possession Bay, Gold Harbour and Drygalski Fjord where the introduced reindeer roam. Elsewhere on South Georgia, spot fur seals, elephant seals, as well as a number of different penguins (gentoo, macaroni) and albatrosses (grey-headed, light-mantled sooty) and petrels (Northern and southern giant, white-chinned, storm petrels), and of course the endemic South Georgia Pintail. This is a naturalist and photographer's paradise. Sailing along the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands once again concentrate on wildlife viewing, but with possible visits to scientific bases, as well as the breathtaking scenery of narrow waterways, glaciers, icebergs and rugged mountains.

The Smaller Adventure fleet and expedition vessels

We sincerely believe that the smaller vessels offer the best experience for polar enthusiasts, and as such we offer a hand-picked selection of sturdy ice-strengthened ships and icebreakers carrying between 46-122 passengers. Please refer to the links on the left hand side of this page to access information regarding itineraries, prices and deckplans for the vessels. The Peninsula offers dramatic scenery and the greatest variety of wildlife in Antarctica. During the austral summer, large areas are ice-free and truly amazing photographic opportunities are afforded from curious penguins, seals hauled out on ice floes and vivid ice sculptures.
