INTRODUCING LATIN AMERICA

The ancient cultures and fascinating human history that reverberates throughout Latin America stand in stark contrast to the vast, uninhabited, icy landscapes of Antarctica. While the latter offers the world’s most unique and untouched environment, the diversity and vibrancy of the South American continent, with its wonders both natural and manmade, provides the perfect footnote to an epic polar journey.

With the majority of our Antarctic voyages starting at the most southerly tip of Argentina, it makes perfect sense to extend your stay and explore a little of Latin America. Argentina and neighbouring Chile not only offer some of the most spell-binding vistas on this continent, but are also easily accessible by air from the southerly city of Ushuaia. Whether you’re craving total relaxation at a charming ranch in the Argentine Pampas, fancy feeling the spray on your face at Iguazu’s thundering waterfalls, or simply wish to continue your undoubted love affair with all things ice, Latin America awaits.

On the following pages detail a selection of sample itineraries intended to provide an indication of what is possible. All arrangements will be made on a tailor-made basis.

FLIGHTS

We are able to offer competitive fares with a variety of international and domestic airlines for travel from the UK to Latin America and within each country itself. We take the time to tailor-make each flight itinerary according to the specifics of your holiday and personal preference. Please contact our team to discuss your travel plans.

ARGENTINA

From the nation’s sophisticated capital Buenos Aires to the rustic working estancias that dot the Pampas, Argentina offers a kaleidoscope of experiences and landscapes in an area ten times the size of the British Isles. The tremendous power of the waterfalls at Iguazu and the surrounding subtropical rainforests seem a world away from the serene lake district of Bariloche and the rugged glacial beauty of Patagonia. Like most Latin Americans, the people of Argentina are friendly and welcoming and also passionate about their country. Extensions in Argentina

CHILE

From the Atacama Desert in the north to Torres del Paine in the south, Chile has the sort of epic landscape to make even the most seasoned traveller sit up and take notice. Occupying a remarkably long slither of land running over 4000 km down the west coast of South America, the Andes form the backbone of this breathtaking country, separating it from Bolivia and Peru to the north and Argentina to the east. PERU

Steeped in a rich heritage derived from the gold-worshipping Incas, Peru is dotted with astounding monuments and citadels that bear witness to the legacy of this ancient tribe. Undoubtedly the most famous of these ruins is the magical site of Machu Picchu, flanked by steep terraces and nestled amongst dramatic peaks at the gateway to the Amazon valley. Extensions in Peru

NEW ZEALAND

The South Pacific island nation of New Zealand is often described as a world in itself. Its two main islands span over 1000 miles and take in all climates from the sub-tropical balmy north to the sub-Antarctic alpine south. Among its incredibly varied landscapes you will find lofty snow-capped mountains, picturesque lakes and rivers, rolling farmlands, steaming geothermal fields and lunar-like volcanic deserts. Mile upon mile of unspoiled coast comprises rugged cliffs, rocky headlands, soft sand beaches, sheltered bays and idyllic coves.

With our voyages to the Ross Sea region and East Antarctica either starting or ending in New Zealand, this is the perfect opportunity to extend your stay in this diverse country. We offer a comprehensive travel service throughout and as host of suggested itineraries as well as accommodation and vehicle hire options can be found on our website. As with Latin America, all arrangements can be fully tailor-made. Extensions in New Zealand
