The Perito Moreno glacier is a stunning 5km long wall of jagged blue ice spilling from the South Patagonian Icefield into Lake Argentino, within Los Glaciares National Park. The nearby town of El Calafate provides the perfect base from which to explore and is conveniently just over an hour’s flight from Ushuaia.
El Chalten lies 220km from El Calafate at the foot of the majestic peaks of Mount Fitzroy and Cerro Torre. This town’s name translates as ‘the mountain that smokes’, after the granite towers that glow a fiery pink colour at daybreak and whose peaks are encircled by cloud. The town is thriving thanks to visiting climbers and hikers who are drawn to arguably some of the most beautiful mountain peaks on earth.
