Argentina’s Esteros del Ibera are the second-largest wetlands in south America, in the Corrientes province. The Esteros consist of lakes, esteros (marshes), streams and floating islands amassing an area of around 13,000 km2. This natural reserve hosts a large biodiversity, including river otter, the rare maned wolf, pampas and marsh deer, howler monkeys, boas as well as two species of alligator and caiman, as well as the capybara and around 350 species of bird. Boat trips afford fantastic opportunities for wildlife viewing.
